A quilting bee is a gathering where quilters share their skills and help finish each other’s work. We named this toolbox after that tradition, since it does the same job for the part of quilting that nobody loves: the arithmetic. Pick a tool, type your measurements in inches or centimeters, and get an answer you can check, with the working shown.
Why we built these quilting calculators
Most quilting mistakes happen before the first stitch, in the moment you decide how much fabric to buy or what size to cut. A pattern’s numbers rarely match your own bed, your favorite block size or the fabric you have on hand. These tools start with your own measurements. They allow for seams, they round up to the cuts that shops really sell, and they say clearly where a figure is a rule of thumb rather than a fact.
Each tool has a chart in the page itself, so you can read the most common answers at a glance, even without running the calculator. Every tool can also be printed, and its address updates as you type, so you can bookmark your own project or send it to a friend. Lengths accept fractions, so you can type 2 1/2 exactly as your ruler shows it.
Your privacy
All of the math happens on your own device. The tools do not ask for an account, and they do not send your measurements to a server. The templates are drawn in your browser too, so a saved file never leaves your computer. If you share a link, the settings you entered are part of that link, so only share what you are happy to share.
Frequently asked questions
Are these quilting calculators free?
Yes. Every tool is free to use, with no account and no download. You can also embed most of them on your own site, as long as you keep the credit link.
Do the tools work in centimeters?
Yes, for all of the tools that measure lengths. Choose Centimeters under the fields in the tool, and the fields and results will change to match.
Can I print the results?
Yes. Each tool has a Print button, and your browser can also save the page as a PDF. Template sheets print at true size when you choose 100% or actual size.
How accurate are the calculators?
The math is checked with worked examples, and each page explains its method. Fabric, seams and shrinkage all vary, so treat the results as a plan, and test your first cut.
